[edit]From Proto-Eastern Algonquian *čīkkahīkan, from Proto-Algonquian *či·katahikani (“broom”). Equivalent to chíikham (“to sweep”) + -íikan. Cognate with Unami chikhikàn (“broom”), Abenaki chighigan (“broom”), Penobscot čikkáhikan (“broom”).
