1. Alternative form of chowpaul.

     The third kind [of palanquin] is called Chaupala, that is four square, and is a kind of square box open at the sides.

   • 1911, Calendar of Persian Correspondence..., page xxvi:

     ...bahlis, chakras, bullock-carts, dolis, tattus, palkis, miyanas, kharkharinas, bajras and chaupalas, were the common vehicles.
