[edit]From Middle Mongol [script needed] (ǰērän, “antelope”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *yẹgren (“yellow, chestnut”). Compare Middle Mongol ᠵᠡᠭᠡᠷᠡ (ǰegere) and modern Mongolian зээр (zeer).
