  1. A hypothetical enzyme that leads to the catenation of separated DNA strands.
    • 1978, Journal of Mathematical Biology - Volume 6, page 388:
Nevertheless there remains the possibility that the action of the catenase when the chromosomes are pulled apart during cell division could unlink the daughter molecules.
    • 1983, Nicholas R. Cozzarelli, Mechanisms of DNA Replication and Recombination, page 10:
I will digress briefly to tell you about a remarkably active catenase activity (unpublished observation by R. Low and A. Kornberg) .
    • 2012, A. De Recondo, New Approaches in Eukaryotic DNA Replication, page 132:
It is also interesting to note that two years before the discovery of the catenation-decatenation activity of DNA gyrase, Pohl and Roberts examined the possible existence of a new enzyme, the "catenase" which would make the alignment problem insignificant.
