Noun

[edit]

carvol (plural carvols)

  1. (organic chemistry) One of a species of aromatic oils resembling carvacrol, C10H14O, consisting of a cyclohexene ring and a hydroxyl group.

Usage notes

[edit]

While carvol is an isomer of carvone, it has a different structure. Carvone can refer to either of two enantiomers that consist of a cyclohexene ring with a double bond and a carbonyl group, rather than a single bond and a hydroxyl group as in carvol.
