capixaba
Appearance
Portuguese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Old Tupi capixaba (“corn hair”). It may refer to the impression that native peoples had of blonde Europeans, or to the corn plantations near Vitória. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
The term originally referred to natives of Vitória only, but the sense later expanded to mean natives of the whole state.
