canned benchmark
Appearance
English
[edit]Noun
[edit]canned benchmark (plural canned benchmarks)
- (computing, video games) A computer program designed for the sole purpose of benchmarking the hardware it's being run on.
- (by extension, video games) An automated benchmark sequence built into a video game.
Usage notes
[edit]- The term has a negative connotation due to canned benchmarks historically being inaccurate and not representative of real-world performance. Some hardware manufacturers have also been caught cheating in canned benchmarks by changing the hardware's behavior when a canned benchmark program is being run.[1]
