  1. (medicine) Injection through the semicircular canals.
    • 2013, Issues in Otorholaryngology, Audiology, and Speech Pathology Research and Practice, page 592:
We employed an AdV- and AAV-carrying green fluorescent protein using a semicircular canal approach (via a canalostomy) and round window approach. AAV injection via canalostomy induced gene expression at the hair cells, supporting cells, and fibrocytes at the vestibular organs without auditory or balance dysfunction, suggesting it was the most suitable transfection method.
    • 2022, Berta Alsina, Stefan Heller, Isabel Varela-Nieto, Inner Ear Biology, page 55:
A recent study of dye tracking following round-window membrane injection and PSCC canalostomy injection in mice showed that the cochlear aqueduct dictates dye diffusion in the inner ear, by ensuring a pressure shunt to the cranial cavity (Talaei et al., 2019).
