calorisator (plural calorisators)

  1. An apparatus used in beet-sugar factories to heat the juice in order to aid diffusion.
    • 1894, Robert Grimshaw, The Sugar Beet: Devoted to the Cultivation and Utilization of the Sugar Beet:
While it is true that with steam the juices are, to a certain extent, diluted, on the other hand, there is considerable space lost in the calorisators filled with juice, which had not during the interval been in contact with beet slices, thus causing a diminished osmosing effect.
