[edit]Inherited from Vulgar Latin *cascunum or *casquunum, a conflation of Latin quisque ūnum (“each one”) and *catunum, from cata (<Ancient Greek κατά (katá)) ūnum. Or from a crossing of cada and Old Catalan quiscun. Compare Occitan cadun, cascun~chascun, French chacun, Italian ciascuno.
