Borrowed from Polish kabanos (sausage), from kaban (hog, boar), from Ukrainian каба́н (kabán, wild boar), from a Turkic language (Tatar kaban, Azerbaijani qaban, Kazakh қабан (qaban)); cognate with Turkish yaban.
