[edit]An onomatopoeia, related to cicëroj and cirlë.[1] In view of variant cërllë (with -rn- assimilation), Orel suggests a South Slavic origin; compare Serbo-Croatian crnilo (“blackness; ink”), Macedonian црнило (crnilo, “blackness”).[2]
