Northern Sami
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Samic *puorē.
Pronunciation
[edit]Adjective
[edit]buorrẹ (comparative buorẹt, superlative buorẹmus)
Usage notes
[edit]The adjective buorrẹ does not have a separate attributive form. Instead, it declines in the same case and number as the noun it modifies. There are two exceptions to this:
- With a noun in the illative or locative singular, the accusative/genitive form buori is used.
- With a noun in the illative or comitative plural, the accusative/genitive form buriid can be optionally used, alongside the regular forms buriide and buriiguin.
The nominative singular form is slightly irregular as well, ending in -e rather than -i.
