1. A metal bar or set of bars that are installed to protect the front or back of a vehicle.
   • 1920, Oildom - Volume 11, Issues 2-11, page 6:

     By grasping the bumper bar at the center a slight backward pull accompanied by a lifting motion enables the driver to swing the bumper bar to a position where it will not in any way interfere with the filing of the buckets.

   • 1937, Ray Forest Kuns, Trailer Engineering, page 48:
