[edit]From Proto-Philippine *bulalakaw (“shooting star; kind of spirit”), possibly through Hiligaynon or Cebuano. Cognate with Kapampangan bulalako (“meteor”), Cebuano bulakaw (“spirit resembling St. Elmo's fire”), Maranao bolalakaw (“god of fish”), and Tagalog bulalakaw (“meteor”).
