Inherited from Sanskrit *बुभुक्षक (bubhukṣaka, desiring to eat) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀉𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-ulla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), a back-formation from बुभुक्षति (bubhukṣati, to desire to eat) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-).
