[edit]Probably borrowed from a Vulgar Latin *brosca, or *broscus, broxae (“frog”) (compare Romanian broască, Old French bruesche, Milanese Lombard brosco), from Ionic Ancient Greek βρόθακος (bróthakos).[1]
