[edit]From Middle English bischaden, bischadewen, bischadowen, equivalent to be- + shade and/or be- + shadow. Cognate with Saterland Frisian beskaadje (“to shadow”), Dutch beschaduwen (“to shade, shadow”), German beschatten (“to shadow”).
