Old Welsh

Adjective

[edit]

bescc

  1. thick

Noun

[edit]

bescc

  1. thigh

Usage notes

[edit]

The -r- in the word's descendants was apparently humorously deleted in the Old Welsh word's main attestation in a gloss on Martianus Capella. Bescc glosses Latin femur in a section about the morphological disappearance of -r- in some Latin derived terms and declensions.

The adjective itself is not attested in Old Welsh. However, its existence may be inferred from its later descendants.
