[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *bibungu. Equivalent to bifian + -ung. The -eo- is from back umlaut, which did not affect bifian because its second syllable lacked a back vowel. The alternative form bifung has its -i- leveled in from bifian.
