[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀩𑁂𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*beṭṭa, “child”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Urdu بیٹِی (beṭī, “daughter, child”).
