[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle English bargaynen, from Anglo-Norman bargaigner (“to bargain”), from Frankish *borganjan (“to borrow, lend”), from Proto-Germanic *burgijaną (“to borrow, lend”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰergʰ- (“to protect, secure”). By surface analysis, bargen + -io.
