[edit]- Borrowed from Betawi bareng, from Javanese ꦧꦉꦁ (bareng, “together”).
- Inherited from Malay berangai, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian language *barangay. Literally a kind of long boat that is ridden together. This meaning can be found in Philippines languages.
