Maltese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Sicilian balluni, badduni, from Lombardic Old High German bal, ballo, from Proto-Germanic *balluz, *ballô. The Sicilian form in -uni is either from the Old High German weak noun ballo (inflected *ballon), or derived from the simple balla, badda with the augmentative suffix -uni.
