Etymology
[edit]From earlier variant bakulod, from Proto-Philippine *bakúlud (“stoney plateau”), with elision of /l/. Compare Ilocano bakulod, Kapampangan bakulud, Hanunoo bakulod, Bikol Central bakulod, Aklanon bakueod, Cebuano bakulod, Hiligaynon bakolod, Maranao bakolod, and Tausug bakūd.
