[edit]Possibly a dialectal form of Middle English *becck, *betch, from to Old English *becc (“stream”), from Proto-Germanic *bakjaz (“brook”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰog- (“flowing water, stream”). Cognate with Old Norse bekkr (“brook”). More at beck.
