[edit]Root-for-root calque of Danish bomuld (“cotton”), from German Baumwolle (“cotton”). Composed of baðmur (“tree”) + ull (“wool”).
A doublet of bómull (“cotton”), an older loanword that also comes from Danish bomuld.
