  1. to improve, to better something, to correct something [with accusative]
  2. to improve somebody's ways [with accusative]
  3. to add to, to make a contribution [with accusative]
  4. to compensate, to make good [with dative ‘someone’ and accusative ‘for something’; or with accusative ‘for something’ and við (+ accusative) ‘someone’]
  5. to relieve, to remedy, to mend, to cure [with dative ‘someone’, along with genitive or af (+ dative) ‘of a disease’]
