Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish آولانمق (avlanmaḳ, to be hunted, to be duped, to be suited to be used in hunting),[1] from Ottoman Turkish آولامق (avlamaḳ, to hunt, to deceive, to dupe), from Ottoman Turkish آو (av, the chase, hunting of any kind, game, prey), from Proto-Turkic *āb (the act of hunting or that which is hunted),[2] morphologically av (prey, game) +‎ -le +‎ -n (passive and reflexive suffix) +‎ -mak. Cognates with Azerbaijani ovlanmaq.
