[edit]Noun
[edit]avene f
Latvian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Derived from the word avs “ewe” (cf. auns) + -ene. Raspberries are compared to sheep because of their softness and the tiny projections on their surface. Another possible motivation is that sheep often eat raspberry leaves. Cognates include Lithuanian aviẽtė.[1]
