[edit]From international scientific vocabulary, from New Latin, parallel with the a- + stereo- + gnosis of the more established synonym (astereognosis) and clearly influenced by the naturally apparent (to biomedically informed speakers) surface analysis of agnosia (which is cognitively adjacent, hypernymously).
