[edit]Perhaps from Proto-Albanian *a(k)škā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱs- (“axis”).[1]
Alternatively, a borrowing from Late Latin ascla, from Latin assula.[2][3] Compare Romanian așchie.
