[edit]Either inherited from Proto-Cariban or else ultimately a Wanderwort from a Tupian language. From the Cariban languages compare Apalaí apukuita, Trió pukuita, Wayana akupuita, Yao (South America) aguebute; from the Tupian languages compare Wayampi pukwita, pɨkwita, Cocama japukita.
