Borrowed from Late Latin poplexia, apoplexia, from Ancient Greek ἀποπληξία (apoplēxía), from ἀποπλήσσειν (apoplḗssein) to cripple by a stroke; ἀπό (apó, from) + πλήσσειν (plḗssein, to strike).
