apoharmine (uncountable)

1. (organic chemistry) An alkaloid, C₈H₈N₂, derived from harmic acid, that behaves similarly to harmine, but that has greater solubility in water.

     Since apoharmine can be reduced both to dihydro- and tetrahydroapoharmine (242), it still contains the unsaturated nucleus present in harmine.

     Apoharmine and apoadifoline also exhibit similar colour changes in Dische's carbazole test.
