From French antivenin (antivenom), from anti- + venin (venom), popularized by Albert Calmette & al.'s 1894 work creating serums to treat snakebites. Equivalent to anti- +‎ venin (venom; biochemical toxin found in certain snakes). Doublet of antivenom and antivenene.
