Etymology

[edit]

From anti- +‎ novel.

Noun

[edit]

antinovel (plural antinovels)

  1. (literature) A novel that deliberately avoids the typical conventions of the novel, such as a coherent plot and protagonist.
Digressions are usually considered a characteristic feature of the antinovel tradition.
  2. (literature, by extension) Any style of writing that deviates from the norm of technical conventions used in writing literature. (Can we add an example for this sense?)
