[edit]From Byzantine Greek ἄγγων (ángōn, “prong, hook”); ultimately of Gothic *𐌰𐌲𐌲𐌰 (*agga, “prong, hook”) and that from Proto-Germanic *angô (“hook; barb; angle”).
