anemoscope (plural anemoscopes)

  1. An instrument that shows the direction of the wind; a wind vane or weathercock. Formerly, it used to apply to a device consisting of a vane above, connected to the inside of a building with a dial or index to show the wind direction, but today there are many varieties.
