[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese andorinna (“swallow”), from a Vulgar Latin root *harundīna, from Latin hirundō, hirundinem; cf. also harundō, which may have influenced it.
Cognate with Galician andoriña, Mirandese andorina, Leonese andolina and Asturian andarina.
