[edit]From Old Irish om (“raw, uncooked”) (compare Manx aw), from Proto-Celtic *omos (compare Welsh of), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eh₃mós. Cognates include Ancient Greek ὠμός (ōmós), Sanskrit आम (āmá) and Old Armenian հում (hum, “raw”).
