Estonian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Cognate to Finnish allikko. Possibly from a Baltic language, compare Lithuanian šaltenis (“spring”) and šaltinis (“spring, source, that which is cold”). While the expected initial h- is seen in older Estonian texts, its loss in Finnish is unexplained, possibly due to similar words starting with ala-.
Noun
[edit]allikas (genitive allika, partitive allikat)
