[edit]From Ancient Greek ἀκέφαλος (aképhalos, “headless”) (from ἀ- (a-, “not”) + κεφαλή (kephalḗ, “head”)) + -ach). Compare ceifeala- (“cephal(o)-”), from the same Greek root.
