[edit]Inherited from Old French adrecier (“to straighten, address”), from a- (Latin ad (“to”)) + drecier, drecer (compare with modern French dresser) < Vulgar Latin *dīrectiāre, from Latin dīrēctus (“straight or right”), from the verb dīrigĕre. Compare Italian indirizzare.
