[edit]From Proto-Turkic *āŋ-la- (“to understand”).[1] Cognate with Azerbaijani anlamaq, Gagauz annamaa, Turkish anlamak, Turkmen āňlamak, Western Yugur [script needed] (aŋna-, “to hear”).
