[edit]First attested as sueninghe in the 13th century. Derived from Old Frisian Sween (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi-. The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier version of the Frisian name. Compare Zwijnsbergen.
