[edit]Borrowed from Spanish Xochistlahuaca, from a Nahuan language; equivalent to Classical Nahuatl xōchitl (“flower”) + ixtlāhuacān (“plain”). The Nahuan word is a calque from Amuzgo; compare San Pedro Amuzgos Amuzgo Suntjaaꞌ (“flower plain”).
