Etymology

Borrowed from Spanish Xochistlahuaca, from a Nahuan language; equivalent to Classical Nahuatl xōchitl (flower) + ixtlāhuacān (plain). The Nahuan word is a calque from Amuzgo; compare San Pedro Amuzgos Amuzgo Suntjaaꞌ (flower plain).
