Wolfsburg

German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Low German Wolvesborch. By surface analysis, Wolf (“wolf”) + -s- + Burg (“castle”). The name originally referred exclusively to Wolfsburg Castle. The city was only founded in 1938 under the name Stadt des KdF-Wagens (after the prototype of the later VW Beetle). In 1945, the Allies renamed the city after the castle.
