Flexion of Junge

[edit]

As for the flexion of Junge – or probably more general weak and maybe mixed masculine nouns –:
(South)eastwestphalian (in Niu lustert mol!):

Casus definit indefinit
Sg. Pl. Sg. Pl.
Nom. (dei/de [adj.-e]) Junge (dei/de [adj.-en]) Jungens (en) Junge, (en adj.-en) Junge [at the beginning of a sentence, i.e. „(En adj.-en) Junge ...“] / (en adj.-en) Jungen [inside a sentence] ([adj.-e]) Jungens, (twei) Jungens
Dat. Jungen *Jungens *Jungen Jungens
Acc. (den [adj.-en]) Jungen *Jungens (en [adj.-en]) Jungen ([adj.-e]) Jungens
Voc. ([diu adj.-e]) Junge (o) Jungens - -
  • adj. stands for the adjective stem while -e, -en is the inflexional ending
  • As for the indefinit nom. sg.:
    • According to the introduction it's without adj. „en Junge“ but with adj. for example „en lägen Jungen
    • By the text it could be „en Junge“, „En adj.-en Junge ...“ (beginning of a sentence) but „... en adj.-en Jungen (...)“ (inside or at the end of a sentence). Maybe it could also be a matter of emphasis.

Southwestphalian (intro from F. W. Grimme's Schwänke und Gedichte in sauerländischer Mundart (2nd ed.), text from his Grain Tuig. Schwänke und Gedichte in sauerländischer Mundart):

Casus definit indefinit
Sg. Pl. Sg. Pl.
Nom. (dai) Junge *Jungens Junge[1], (en) Junge[2] / ('ne [adj.-en]) Jungen [inside a sentence][3] *Jungens
Dat. (dem) Jungen *Jungens *Jungen Jungens
Acc. (den) *Jungen *Jungens *Jungen ([adj.-e]) Jungens
Voc. Junge *Jungens - -
  1. ^ „Lot deynen Jungen Junge seyn“
  2. ^ „en Junge is en Junge“
  3. ^ „Teweylen wuall was ik 'ne artigen Jungen, [...]“
  • As for the indefinit nom. sg.:
    • According to the introduction it would with the indefinit article be „Jungen“ (regardless of any adjective); with the given example „hai is 'ne gurren Mensken“ (he is a good man/human).
