- My proposal for Russian. I still cannot comprehend wherefore here stands French... The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 14:41, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
This is a point of contact for editors on other Wiktionaries. It may make sense to use the languages of the Wiktionaries with most editors. The ten most populous are English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Chinese, Polish, Turkish, Italian, with 6,900 or more editors (per meta:Wiktionary#List of Wiktionaries). Adding Japanese makes it the top 11, with 5,000 or more. —Michael Z. 2009-05-31 18:09 z
- Michael, I was referring to this, I have no intention to contest the right of the language of the biggest Wiktionary to be represented here. I fixed the Russian version accordingly The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 18:24, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Nothing about what you said above—I have no idea how the languages were chosen, so I put forward a suggested model, is all. Cheers.
- I added the Russian text. Copied новый раздел from ru.Wikt, but it should say “new message”. —Michael Z. 2009-05-31 19:03 z
- message = сообщение, but раздел sounds also good. The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 19:09, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

- Новый раздел = New section, which is the same of course, but for the sake of consistency I changed it to новое сообщение. I made few other minor tweaks as well. --Vahagn Petrosyan 20:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Sort order
[edit]I sorted all the languages' welcome text, except English, by the English name of the language. They shouldn't be sorted by relative popularity or something, because those statistics are likely to change. —Michael Z. 2009-05-31 19:07 z
